Assisteens, our junior auxiliary, encourages and provides volunteer opportunities for young people in grades 7 through 12. The goals are to develop a sense of community responsibility, self-reliance, personal responsibility, poise, public speaking and leadership skills. Assisteens volunteer at the thrift shop in exchange for budgeted funds to use for their philanthropic programs that benefit their community.
At their February meeting, the teens assembled one-hundred Military Care packages, and wrote the thank you notes for MilVet. For anyone not familiar with Milvet, they are a nonprofit charitable organization dedicated to community outreach and providing philanthropic programs to enrich the lives of veterans, seniors, and families in the community. The one-hundred packages all went towards their Military Care Packages & Freedom Supplies program, which sends packages to deployed military members each month with nutritious items, hygiene items, and letters of support/encouragement.
