Temecula Dollars for Scholars “Meet and Greet”

On September 9th, Temecula Dollars for Scholars hosted a “Meet and Greet” kick-off event for their 2025 donors. Assistance League members Janet Brush, Electra Demos, and Connie Harris attended.

All three Temecula Valley High Schools sent student representatives to the event. Great Oak High School students greeted the donors, the Temecula Vally High School Orchestra provided music, and Chaparral High School’s AJ ROTC presented the colors.

President Lisa Flynn made a presentation about the history and mission of Temecula Dollars for Scholars. In 1987, a group of parents, teachers, and community members came together to establish a nonprofit organization that would assist Temecula high school graduates in obtaining scholarships. Ten years ago the local group became a member of a non-profit organization, Scholarship America, which functions as a clearinghouse for scholarships offered throughout the United States.

Since 1987, Temecula Dollars for Scholars has awarded over 4 million dollars to graduating Temecula Valley Unified School District graduates. In 2023, over $166,000 was awarded to deserving high school graduates.

Several recipients who had received scholarships spoke in person or via video, about how their scholarship money helped them to pursue their career goals by paying for college expenses.Temecula Mayor James “Stew” Stewart spoke about the scholarship he and his family award each year to a student who will pursue a career in the trades.
