Chapters or Children at Camp Pendleton

As the end of summer arrives kids know the beginning of school is not far behind. One way to help ready themselves for the new school year is to attend the Chapters for Children’s Back to School Dressing. At this annual event, held on Camp Pendleton on August 17th, students receive new clothes provided by 7 local Assistance League Chapters, including the Temecula Valley Chapter.

During this Drive-Thru event 515 Military school-age dependents were dressed for the up- coming school year with new socks and shoes, underwear, blouses/shirts, legging for the girls and Target Gift Cards, provided by ALTV in lieu of jeans for 282 male students, and sweatshirts. In addition, each student received a bag of toiletries to help start the year off in a positive way.

While the 222 families in attendance passed by each tent they expressed their thanks and appreciation for what they had received. For the parents, their appreciation stemmed from the acknowledgment of the sacrifices their families make for this nation. For the students their thank you was for their new clothes, and maybe for the piece of licorice they received. The volunteers were very thankful and grateful they had had the opportunity to take part in this very worthwhile program which was a very successful event.
