OPERATION LITERACY

Assistance League of Visalia's literacy program that purchases age-appropriate books for all students in an elementary school and allows students to select books for their at-home library. In this way, students and their entire families expand the number of books in the home for all to read. Each year, we budget $10,000 for the purchase of books and give books to 7,000 or more students in 15 schools throughout Tulare County. The joy of reading is a lasting gift for every child.

Volunteers for Operation Literacy can expect to travel to schools in Tulare County to arrange books for distribution and supervise students as they select a book to take home. Depending on the travel time, Operation Literacy is a 3 to 4 hour commitment approximately five times a school year.
